Biography

Born in Novosibirsk. Both close and distant relatives were all born in different places: Georgia, Poland, the Caucasus,Russia, Crimea, Siberia. By profession instructor of children’s extracurricular activities, working for the past few yearsat the studio theatre “Smile” at the YMCA.

Has lived in Germany since 1998, in Düsseldorf. Translates into Russian German and English poetry (Masha Kaleko, Gertrud Kolmar, Rudyard Kipling, Shel Silverstein, etc.)

Laureate of the 1989 Valery Grushin Song Festival in the category of “Author”. Was included in the collections “All” (Riga, 1992), and “Sisters” (St.Petersburg, 1993), and participated in the International Music and Poetry Festival in Germany (Remscheid, 1993). Published her first book of poetry, “Conversations at a Crossroads” (Novosibirsk) in 1995.

In 2002 — her second, with the publishing house “Vita Nova” (St.Petersburg), titled “In Search of an Angel”, which was translated into German (von Erich Ahrndt “Auf der Suche nach dem Engel”) and published by LLV (Leipzig, Germany) in 2020.

In 2004 she received the first prize and the “Golden Crown” at the Poetry London Competition. Author of “Book for Four”, which was published in Petersburg in 2005. In 2005 she also read a collection of poems on Radio BBC (London) at the invitation of S. Novgorodtsev. In 2006 she was a guest on the program “Meetings in New York with Victor Topaller”.
Her first major translation work — the book “Life and Poems” was published in Chisinau by the publishing house “Depozit en Gross” in 2007, and is dedicated to the centenary of the birth of German poetess Masha Kaleko (1907- 1975) A non-commercial edition of a book of poems by Shela Silverstein was published in 2019.
After leaving Siberia, the geography of her performances and publications of poetry expanded to cover Germany, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Spain, Sweden, Great Britain, Israel, Russia, and the USA.
Her works were published in the Anthology of Russian Poetic Translation “Century of Translation-XXI” (Moscow, publishing house “Aquarius”) “Russian Albion” (England), “Seven Arts” (Russia), “Literary Jerusalem” (Israel), “Vestnik” (USA) and in many others.

A book of translations of the poetry of Gertrude Kolmar (1894–1943) is being prepared for publication.

Many songs have been written on the verses of Marina Gershenovich, two CDs with live and studio recordings are
being prepared for release. The project is called “Bridges over the Stream”
